ASAM Announces 2026 Class of Distinguished Fellows

Rockville, MD (Jan. 21, 2026) - The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÔÚÏß (ASAM) today announced a new class of Distinguished Fellows of ASAM (DFASAM).  

The Distinguished Fellows designation was developed in 1996 to honor ASAM physician members for their significant contributions to both the Society and the broader field of addiction medicine. Recipients are recognized as ASAM’s most active volunteers, advocates, and leaders; their service has proven integral to advancing ASAM’s mission to be the physician-led professional community for those who prevent, treat, and promote remission and recovery from the disease of addiction.   

The 2026 DFASAM recipients are as follows:  

  • Sarah W. Book, MD, DFASAM 

  • David Fiellin, MD, DFASAM 

  • Hiroko Furo, MD, DFASAM 

  • Sandra Gomez Luna, MD, DFASAM 

  • Noel Ilogu, MD, MRCP, DFASAM 

  • Robert Levy, MD, DFASAM 

  • Moxie J. Loeffler, DO, MPH, DFASAM 

  • Carla Marienfeld, MD, DFASAM 

  • Smita Prasad, MD, MBA, MPH, CMRO, DFASAM 

  • Kristin Van Zant, MD, DFAPA, DFASAM 

  • Elise Wessol, DO, DFASAM 

The 2026 class will be recognized at the  held in San Diego, CA, April 23-26, 2026. 

This designation is granted yearly to select physician members who meet qualifying criteria, such as serving on the Board of Directors, chairing an ASAM committee or task force, authoring content three or more times in an ASAM national publication, or completing a term as an officer to an active Chapter of ASAM. Distinguished Fellows must also demonstrate contributions to their community in addiction or substance-use related services. Qualifying activities include teaching contributions in a graduate-level program setting, exhibiting a strong commitment to volunteerism by participating in non-compensated activities, such as volunteer work at community health agencies, among other criteria. More information about eligibility can be found here.
